Uncertainty is in every aspect of life. From your family and personal relationships to your job or business — even your internet connection! — there’s always bound to be something you’re not completely sure of. So what do you do? You learn to deal with it.
Just like you don’t fight gravity, you also shouldn’t fight uncertainty. You learn to mitigate the risks, especially in major decisions, and then you adjust your attitude. Here are a few ways to help you do so.
Give yourself a break.
Even if it may not seem like it, you’re trying to live your life the best way you can. You may have more than your fair share of setbacks and failures, but you’re still trying. So cut yourself some slack and acknowledge your small wins and progress. Only you will ever know just how far you’ve actually come.
Stop looking for a surefire way to do something because it doesn’t exist. If you get married, how do you know you’ll live happily together with your spouse for the rest of your life? You don’t. When you start a job, how do you know that you’ll actually like it? You don’t. Just think about it: you’re not even sure if you can make it to the other side when you cross the road!
That’s not being negative, that’s being realistic. You have to accept that life doesn’t offer guarantees, but it does give you CHANCES to try. So make the most out of them.
Stay in the present.
Worry and apprehension come from being so fixated about the future that you forget to live in the present. No matter how bad things may seem, discipline your mind and practice dealing with your challenges one day at a time, one step at a time. Tomorrow will work itself out when you get there.
Uncertainty is like a double-edged sword. You can view your life as one grand adventure where anything can happen, or you can regard it as one disaster just waiting to unfold. The choice is ALWAYS yours.
